On 2nd June, the acclaimed pianist Margaret Fingerhut gave a recital at Bournville Quaker Meeting House to raise funds for Birmingham City of Sanctuary. There was not a spare seat to be had, and the music – brilliantly-played pieces by composers who had lived in exile or who had themselves been refugees – was complemented by background information about their lives and about the lives of refugees. The concert w as part of national tour which was Margaret’s initiative, and over the last months she has raised over £50,000 for various City of Sanctuary groups.
