At a well-attended Award Ceremony at Halesowen College, members of staff and students were present to celebrate the work done by this very special place. We heard from students who had arrived without any English and who are now confident enough to speak to a large gathering of their peers and their teachers, from a student governor, and from a representative of the LGBTQI group. Those of us from Birmingham City of Sanctuary and Birmingham City University who had been invited were very impressed by the maturity and self-confidence of the students, and we look forward to working with them in the future, as we will be inviting them to visit the schools in our Schools of Sanctuary network to speak about their experiences and to be role-models for younger children and teenagers.
