Run4Refugees is happening again this year on Saturday 11 March 2017 in Cannon Hill Park from 12 noon. The event will be raising funds for Restore and for refugees in Yalova, Turkey.
Restore is based in our wonderful city, Birmingham, and provides essential support for refugees, helping them rebuild their lives. One-on-one befriending and mentoring support for refugees and asylum seekers are some of the services they provide. Additionally, Restore helps asylum seekers through the asylum process. Restore is also helping the Syrian refugees in Birmingham. If you may be interested in becoming a befriender, see their website for more details and check out their Facebook page.
Support will also go to refugees in Yalova, Turkey (via ChurchCentral). Yalova is in northwestern Turkey across the Sea of Marmara from Istanbul. Turkey has received well over two million refugees in the last 4 years, many of whom are Syrian (Check out the UNHCR website for more information about refugees). There are around 25 large refugees camps in Turkey, together holding around 500,000 people. One of these camps is in Yalova.
Churchcentral has direct links with a church in Yalova, Turkey that are feeding, rehousing and training 100s of refugees, the money raised will help refugees in Yalova buy materials to make and sell produce, in turn helping them to earn money. Money will also go towards funding transport, helping the church deliver more food and supplies to the refugees.
